Bhag Milkha Bhag.. movie review

A film that makes you feel immensely patriotic, a film that makes you laugh and leaves you teary eyed, a film that touches your heart, and gives you an awesome actor named Farhan Akhtar. If you don't watch this film, you are missing out a lot. The ups and downs of the life of The Flying Sikh is a story of inspiration.

Milkha singh, the legend, who failed to win a medal in the Olympics because he looked back for a second while running...why did he do so? The film portrays his life and I believe nobody could have done a better job than Rakesh Omparkash Mehra, they need send this film to the Oscar this year. Dealing with a serious topic like riot and making us laugh with the comic situations in the army where Milkha and his fellow jawans compete for a glass of milk, the sensuous love scenes in Australia and the first love with the gao-ki chhori Sonam Kapoor which inspired him to become something, this maybe a long film but never leaves u bored.

I won't discuss the film just some unforgettable pictures ..
Spoiler Alert:
Picture 1: When Milkha wins against those who had beaten him up with bandaged limbs, the determination in his face.
Picture 2: The asian games, where Milkha touches the finishing line rope first and defeats pakistan's sprinter Abdul Khaliq.
Picture 3: The riot scene where those butchers cut off his grandad's head who urged him to run and never look back, a memory that haunted him for the rest of his life. The child actor searching frenziedly  for his mother amongst the bodies covered in blood, and a child in the movie hall shouted "where is his mom"? The horrors of riot, why do humans turn into monsters?
Picture 4 : . The place where Milkha's elder sister got abused and raped by her husband and the teenagers laugh at each other, but child Milkha stares at the purdah in horror. Those who say marital rapes do not occur, perhaps need the innocence of a child's eye to see that violence which eyes enshrouded with customs cannot. And the people in the audience who sniggered got their slap alright when the child Milkhu beats up his sister's husband.. I loved, loved that scene! And I want to thank the director for sending out such a strong message against marital rape which Indian society lives in constant denial of.
Picture 5: When Milkha won the the final race at Pakistan and got a standing ovation and the title the Flying Sikh, when he looked at his past, the child in him running beside him and overcomes finally the horrors of communal violence, the blood stains of riot which had scarred him for his life.

I heard they have banned the film in Pakistan... but they shouldn't. Because those riots of 1947 those are reality, Pakistan cannot live in denial. But the end humanity wins and amidst all the hatred in the world there is still a ray of hope , I am sure pakistanis would have got the beautiful message as well.
Only thing I didn't like is that they could have omitted explicit kissing scenes in Australia, then this could have been for family audience and kids as well.  And songs and dances like "hawan karenge" .. it is too typical bollywoody masala for this kind of film... it is unnecessary!
I can watch this film many a times, a film which even people of the older generation will enjoy, from which the youth can learn a lot.
See u again, till then take care! :)

Yeh jawani Hai Diwani.. Movie Review

I am no film critic just a crazy fan girl of Ranbir Kapoor who incidentally likes Deepika Padukone as well.Hence it was quite expected that I would catch this movie on the very first day it got released! and so, here comes my review!

Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani is not some cult film which can leave some eternal mark in the history of cinema, nor it is some modernised art film that paints relationships. It is a sweet heart warming love story with typical Bollywood dances and songs and dramas and masala with a predicable storyline with its moments of fun and friendship. Yet it is a film which I can watch over and over again. Why? the reason is simple. It is a very feel-good-at-the-end kind of film with an amazing chemistry between ex-offscreen lovers Ranbir and Deepika, infact Bunny and Naina just sizzle the screen. U r  feeling a bit down? Just pick up a bowl of popcorn and soon u will get lost in this movie and smile and laugh with this couple and their friends Avi and Aditi, played by Aditya Roy Kapoor and Kalki respectively.

From being the typical nerdy medical girl, Naina takes her first baby step towards making real friends as she gets bored with her life and takes a trip to Manali with schoolmates. And Miss Perfect falls in love with Bunny, a free spirited Bohemian soul. They separate as Bunny wanted to travel the world and hence Naina decides not to propose him. Years later they meet again at Aditi's wedding and then reunite forever.  As much as the fun moments at Manali leaves u laughing, the tunes of Subhanallah creates the magic moment of first love in the snowy hills of Manali, Balaam Pichkari paints the hearts of lovers in myriad colours, pangs of first lost love lost touches your heart with the  kabira.Yes, the music is a hit. And the image of Ranbir and Deepika grooving to Badtameez Dil never actually leaves your mind! And Madhuri Dixit rocks with a 3 min screen presence!
But the heart of the film lies in its soulful tune of Kabira, the undying love between two people. As Bunny declares "Main udna chahta hoon, daudna chahta hoon, girna bhi chahta hoon ... bus rukna nahi chahta". As Naina tells Bunny at Aditi's wedding " Agar main tumhare saath aur do minute bhi ruki.....to mujhe tumse pyaar ho jayega, phir se. aur tumne nahi hoga, phirse." And there the director Ayan Mukherji creates his magic moment!
Of course I have problems with the fact they made Aditi's engineer husband kind of a dumb guy( we engineers r not dumb really :D ) and medical students do have friends as well, but in this kind of movie everything is never fully logical. :P
So if u have not watched this super-duper-hit movie already, watch it and it will lift your mood instantly. :) Ranbir is looking really handsome and Deepika is super-cute as the geeky girl and the hot woman in a sari..
See u again friends.. till then take care!

They look amazingly in love, don't they? <3

Prinsep ghat.. (Kolkata Chronicles)

Hey readers!Welcome to my blog.
This is my first post ever and hence I intend to write about a place in my city kolkata which you would love to visit.

History: This is a beautiful "ghat" on the banks of Ganga buit in 1841.  There is a memorial dedicated to the Anglo-Indian scholar, orientalist and antiquary James Prinsep which is stunning to behold.

How to reach:
1. Take a taxi.
2. Avail of the kolkata train line from Ballygunge or Dumdum train station via Majherhat and get down at prinsep ghat station. Trains are rare so make sure you get hold of a time-table.
3. Take a suitable bus from Howrah station.

Description: If u want a breath taking view of the Second Hooghly bridge, want to enjoy the scenic beauty of Ganga river, simply take a boat ride with your friends or go on a romantic date this is the place to go. Thanks to the Ganga bank project the place has been renovated by the West Bengal goverment. The place now consists of a beautiful garden besides the river and has nice benches to sit. Outside food and beverages are allowed. There is a police coop around to offer more security. There is an old icecream parlour @scoops and plenty of street food stalls.
